The NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum (NCHISF) and the Gaon Burhas (GBs) of the affected villagers who are yet to receive proper compensation from the Railway authority, had a joint meeting at ISF office, Haflong in Dima Hasao on Saturday.

In the meeting, the GBs expressed their unhappiness over the inaction of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authority which has failed to fulfil their assurances.

On August 10, 2018, the State Government and the NFR authority had a high-level meeting where it was decided to pay compensation to all the genuine affected families who have lost their property including home and paddy land.

On August 21, in the conference hall of the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, a joint meeting of Assam Government, NFR, NC Hills Autonomous Council, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dima Hasao and ISF was held where the railway authority was given one month time for payment of necessary compensation but till date the NFR continues to ignore the State Government direction for the payment of compensation.

The meeting decided to organise an agitational program from November if the NFR authority fails to pay all the necessary compensation within October.
