Around 200 children have turned out at the launch of ‘Kids to Pitch’, a sporting activity exclusively for the children below 12 years, at Paljor Stadium on Sunday.

With the formal launching of the initiative, Paljor Stadium will now be open for all children below 12 years every Sunday from 7-9 AM.

This unique initiative was started by a group of likeminded people from Gangtok with the department of Sports & Youth Affairs mainly to engage young children in outdoor activities and to give basic knowledge of sports and fitness.

The group has been comprises of likeminded parents, former sportspersons and sports enthusiastic led by Sports & Youth Affairs Deputy Director (coaching), Thupten Rapgyal.

The organizers have also provided sports kits for the participating children. On the first Sunday, the initiative has witnessed participation of more than 200 enthusiastic children of different age groups.

On the occasion, Secretary of Sports & Youth Affairs Department, SD Dhakal stated that the main idea of the initiative was to provide a platform exclusively to young children to inspire and motivate them in sports and fitness.

Sikkim Football Association president, Menla Ethenpa congratulated the group and Sports & Youth Affairs Department for coming up with such a unique initiative. He mentioned that All India Football Federation [AIFF] was starting the Baby League in this season of 2018-19 in the national level.

The registration was always open and forms were available at the office of Sports & Youth Affairs Deputy Director (coaching), Thupten Rapgyal at Paljor Stadium.
