Imphal: Security forces and law enforcement agencies in Manipur have intensified operations against illegal activities, leading to several arrests, the seizure of narcotics and the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition in separate incidents across the state.
In Senapati district, a joint team of Senapati Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) uncovered an alleged inter-district drug trafficking network following a vehicle check at the T. Khullen Naka Check Post.
During the operation, security personnel apprehended a resident of Thoubal district after allegedly recovering 590 grams of brown sugar concealed inside his vehicle. Subsequent investigations led police to identify another suspected associate, who was arrested near the Senapati Mini Stadium Ground.
The contraband and the vehicle were seized as police continued their investigation into the alleged drug network.
In a separate anti-narcotics operation in Imphal West district, the Manipur Police Special Commando Unit recovered 356 grams of suspected heroin powder following a vehicle chase.
According to the available information, the incident began when a driver allegedly ignored security personnel’s signals at a checkpoint near Iland Hospital and sped away towards Canchipur. The driver later abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the surrounding area.
A mobile forensic team subsequently examined the vehicle and discovered the suspected narcotics concealed inside its gearbox. The substance was confirmed as heroin following forensic examination. Singjamei Police Station took custody of the seized items for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, a joint operation by the Imphal East Commandos and the 31 Assam Rifles in Imphal East district resulted in the arrest of an active alleged cadre of the Kangleipak Yaol Kanba Lup (KYKL) near Khurai Salanthong Bridge.
The arrested individual is accused of involvement in extortion activities targeting local businesses and civilians.
In another development, personnel of the 7th Manipur Rifles recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition during a routine patrol near the Meikhang Post. The materials were discovered at the foothills of West Meikhang.
