Imphal: Manipuri short documentary Meira, directed by filmmaker and film scholar Johnson Rajkumar, has been selected for the Bangalore Documentary Film Festival (BDFF) 2026.
Organised by the Bangalore Film Forum (BFF), the festival will take place from November 5 to 8 at the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan in Bengaluru. Meira is scheduled to be screened on November 6.
The documentary explores the historic and ongoing resistance of the Meira Paibi, tracing how ordinary women came together to protect their community and developed into a collective force of resistance.
Produced by Deepika Gurumayum, the film marks Johnson Rajkumar’s second documentary project on the Meira Paibi movement. His earlier documentary, Fireflies, which also explored the movement, received critical acclaim and was selected for several international film festivals.
Rajkumar currently serves as Guest Faculty in the Department of Mass Communication at Manipur University.
