Guwahati: The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing on the bail pleas of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sharma in the Zubeen Garg death case from Friday, November 6, to November 30.
The court has also adjourned the Assam Government’s appeals challenging the Gauhati High Court orders granting bail to Amritprabha Mahanta and Sandipan Garg to November 30.
Amritprabha Mahanta and Sandipan Garg were among the seven accused in the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore on September 19, 2025. Mahanta was the first accused in the main investigation to secure bail.
Sandipan Garg, the singer’s cousin and a suspended Assam Police officer, faces a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Both were subsequently released from custody.
Shyamkanu Mahanta, who organised the North East India Festival in Singapore, and Siddhartha Sharma, who worked as Garg’s manager, are facing charges in connection with the singer’s death.
Both moved the apex court after their earlier attempts to obtain bail from lower courts were unsuccessful.
The state government has opposed their bail pleas while seeking the cancellation of bail granted to the co-accused by the Gauhati High Court.
Proceedings are currently taking place at a special fast-track court in Guwahati. According to details provided by the investigation team on October 18, the trial court had heard 134 witnesses by then.
All four petitions will be taken up together when the apex court resumes hearing on the matter.
