Agartala: Implementation of the land-related provisions of the Tiprasa Accord could move forward within days, with Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma indicating that a government notification on the issue may be issued shortly and that the Centre is preparing to resume consultations with the party in New Delhi.

Debbarma, who recently announced his withdrawal from active politics, made the remarks while speaking to reporters after arriving at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport on Thursday. He said he had spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and expected an invitation for further discussions with the Centre.

“Regarding land issues, a notification may be issued today or tomorrow. We will proceed further based on its recommendations. I think they are calling us to Delhi,” he said.

The anticipated notification could mark the beginning of the next phase of implementation of the accord, particularly on matters concerning land rights and related demands of the indigenous Tiprasa community.

Debbarma said the process, initially expected to commence a month after the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), could now move ahead.

He said further delays should be avoided, as timely implementation of the agreed provisions would serve the larger interests of Tripura.

Despite stepping away from active politics, Debbarma made it clear that his commitment to the demands of the indigenous community remained unchanged. He said Tipra Motha would continue to pursue the provisions of the accord and would not dilute its position on issues concerning the future of the Tiprasa people.

“People do not need to worry. As long as I am alive, I am not merely Tipra Motha’s Tiprasa; I am a Tiprasa,” he said, asserting that he would not compromise on the interests of Tripura and its indigenous population.

He also called for unity within the community, cautioning against attempts to exploit internal differences for political purposes. He said differences should not be allowed to undermine the interests of future generations.

Debbarma maintained that the party remained open to negotiations and constructive engagement with the government, while insisting that the commitments made under the Tiprasa Accord must be implemented.

He reiterated that peace and development in Tripura remained among the party’s objectives.
