Imphal: Fresh gunfire erupted along Manipur’s National Highway-202 on Wednesday evening, forcing commuters to dodge multiple rounds of bullets between Leingangching and TM Kasom villages.

The attack, which occurred along a highly vulnerable stretch of the Imphal–Ukhrul Road, has triggered renewed panic among daily travellers and villagers.

Security sources confirmed that the firing commenced around 4:45 p.m. and lasted for over an hour, reportedly originating from the direction of Yaolen Chepu, a local hamlet.

Despite Border Security Force posts being stationed in the immediate vicinity, the unidentified miscreants managed to target a moving civilian convoy.

Authorities reported no casualties or injuries at the time of filing but have officially advised the public to avoid the affected highway stretch until full security assessments are completed.

The escalating volatility was underscored by a civilian passenger who recounted a harrowing experience after her convoy came under direct fire near Litan.

The ambush targeted the vehicles the moment their four-man security escort vehicle halted.

Drivers were forced to take immediate cover between heavy trucks before speeding away from the active gunfire.

While the passengers escaped injury, witnesses said the incident caused distress and raised concerns about civilian safety.

Police had earlier introduced scheduled escorts three times a day between Litan and Yaingangpokpi stations amid the ongoing conflict.
