In yet another first-of-its-kind benevolent act towards Tripura, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC – Tripura Asset) has handed over artificial intelligent limbs to 21 ‘Divyangs’ (physically challenged persons) of the State.
The Health Minister of Tripura, Sudip Roy Barman, along with the Executive Director (ED) – Asset Manager of ONGC – Tripura Asset, GK Singha Roy, inaugurated the programme and handed over the artificial intelligent limbs to the beneficiaries at the office of the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Government of Tripura, Agartala, in an event organised by ONGC -Tripura Asset on Wednesday.
Minister Barman appreciated the concern shown by ONGC Tripura vis-à-vis the ‘Divyangs’ of the State and lauded the initiative taken by ONGC to help the physically challenged persons. He said ONGC has always supported the people of the State and seems to be committed towards the development of Tripura. The ‘Divyangs’ comprised people from all age groups – right from a child of the nursery class to a 75-year-old person – and all were happy that the artificial limbs would help them lead “almost a normal life”. The physically challenged people thanked the oil giant for coming forward to help them “lead a better life”.
The artificial limbs were brought from Green Tech Foundation, a Delhi-based non-profitable trust, which excels in the field of making artificial limbs. The components of the limbs have been imported from US and Germany and are intelligent in nature.
The Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) approached ONGC – Tripura Asset with a proposal for providing artificial limbs to amputees of the State. As the NGO did not have any data of amputees and to make the proposal more concrete, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team of ONGC (Tripura Asset) connected the NGO with DDRC, Government of Tripura, for identification of beneficiaries. Green Tech Foundation Charitable Trust identified 21 amputees.
Fifty more persons would get benefitted under the same project within a very short time, informed GK Singha Roy, who added that ONGC is committed in realising Tripura’s dream of growth and development. He further stated that under the leadership of the Chief Minister (CM) of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb, who dreams about ‘Rising Tripura’, the State would soon establish itself as one of the best managed and developed States of North East India and ONGC is proud to be part of this development. “The ‘Maharatna’ company is ready to extend all its support to the people of Tripura,” Roy stated.
