The deceased were identified as Helena Bharali, her son Debarshi Ishan Kashyap, his wife Rinika, Helenaโs brother Bhudev Bharali and Narayan Das, who was reportedly Bhudevโs caretaker. Satyendra Pathak, the driver, sustained injuries and was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.
Gogoi was arrested within an hour of the shooting. Police also seized a .32-calibre pistol allegedly used in the incident.
The preliminary investigation focused on a dispute over the renewal of Hotel Bilas Innโs lease, including allegations of unpaid rent and outstanding electricity bills.
Meanwhile, police questioned Gogoiโs wife at Paltan Bazar Police Station until midnight on November 1. Following the questioning, she reportedly made several claims about her conversations with her husband after the shooting.
According to her account, Gogoi contacted her shortly after the incident. She further claimed that he told her several people had been pressuring him and advised her to remain cautious along with their daughter.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances and motive behind the shooting. The crime scene recreation is expected to help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events and verify the evidence gathered during the probe.
