Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) is expected to receive around Rs 1,014 crore annually from the proposed limestone mining operations in the district.

In a post on social media platform X, Sarma said 13 limestone blocks had been auctioned transparently to leading cement companies. The auctions are projected to generate approximately Rs 84,500 crore over 50 years, translating into an estimated annual revenue of Rs 1,690 crore.

According to the Chief Minister, the DHAC will receive 60 per cent of the projected revenue, amounting to around Rs 1,014 crore every year.

Sarma described the revenue-sharing arrangement as a step towards strengthening financial autonomy, saying it would provide the local council with substantial resources to meet its requirements without having to depend on the state or central governments for every financial need.

Referring to Dima Hasao’s history of insurgency, the Chief Minister said the proposed mining activities demonstrated how business and economic development could benefit indigenous areas when local institutions receive a direct share of the revenue.

He also criticised opposition to commercial activities in indigenous regions, arguing that the limestone auctions could provide the district with a substantial and sustained source of income over the coming decades.

The revenue projections and proposed sharing arrangement were outlined by Sarma in his social media post.
