North Lakhimpur: A woman police constable posted at Bihpuria Police Station in Assamโs Lakhimpur district has been attached to the Police Reserve in North Lakhimpur following allegations of her association with a suspected counterfeit currency racketeer.
Woman Lance Naik (WLNK) Dolly Pathak was attached to the Police Reserve by Lakhimpur Senior Superintendent of Police Gunendra Deka under Section 46 of the Assam Police Act, 2007, in the interest of public service.
The move followed the circulation of a video on social media purportedly showing Pathak dining and travelling with Mizanur Rahman, alias Mizu, a history-sheeter allegedly involved in counterfeit currency and fake gold transactions.
The video, reportedly recorded during the recent Durga Puja celebrations, appears to show Pathak in police uniform having a meal with Rahman at an eatery before travelling with him in a vehicle.
Rahman, a resident of No. 2 Islampur village under Bangalmora Police Outpost, has previously been accused in counterfeit currency cases. Lakhimpur Police first arrested him in January 2018 after allegedly recovering a counterfeit currency printing machine from his possession.
On July 6 this year, Rahman was arrested along with nine others during a crackdown on an alleged counterfeit currency racket. Coordinated raids conducted in several villages across Lakhimpur district resulted in the seizure of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of around Rs 15 lakh.
A case, registered as No. 132/26 at Laluk Police Station, was filed under Sections 178, 179, 180, 111(2)(b) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Rahman is also alleged to have returned to illegal activities after his recent release from Guwahati Central Jail.
Pathak has faced additional allegations of frequently travelling with Rahman, including during duty hours, and sharing confidential information about police operations targeting the counterfeit currency network. These claims, however, have not yet been independently established.
The action against the constable has brought renewed attention to concerns over alleged connections between members of the police force and organised criminal networks involved in counterfeit currency and fake gold transactions.
Similar allegations had surfaced in the Lakhimpur police establishment in 2023 following the death of Assam Police Sub-Inspector Junmoni Rabha. The incident had prompted widespread scrutiny of alleged links between police personnel and criminal networks in the region.
