Doomdooma: The Doomdooma Sports Association has sought Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s intervention and financial support for the comprehensive development and modernisation of the historic Doomdooma Town Field, submitting a detailed representation during his recent two-day visit to Tinsukia district.

In the representation dated October 29, and addressed to the Chief Minister at Dispur, the association called for urgent measures to upgrade the existing infrastructure and transform the ground into a better-equipped sporting facility to meet the growing needs of local players and sports enthusiasts.

Established in 1966 and affiliated with the Tinsukia District Sports Association, the Doomdooma Sports Association described the town field as a longstanding venue for local football tournaments, athletic events, sports training and community gatherings.

It said the ground has played a significant role in nurturing sporting talent and fostering unity among people in Doomdooma and its adjoining areas.

The representation outlines six priority requirements: proper levelling and drainage of the football ground; construction of a dedicated volleyball court with essential equipment; development of additional sports facilities; construction of a covered spectator shade to provide protection from the sun and rain; installation of durable, non-slip floor tiles in the stadium; and provision of energy-efficient floodlights to facilitate evening matches and training sessions.

Association president Dhiraj Gohain and general secretary Rana Sonar said the proposed improvements would encourage greater participation in sports, help identify and nurture emerging talent, promote physical fitness among young people and create a more conducive environment for hosting larger sporting events.

The association expressed confidence that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, would consider its appeal favourably and extend the necessary assistance through appropriate departmental schemes to fulfil the sporting aspirations of the people of Doomdooma.

The representation was submitted by general secretary Rana Sonar on Thursday.
