Dibrugarh : ย In a heartwarming display of humanity and solidarity, a night super bus travelling from Guwahati to Dibrugarh became an unexpected delivery room when a pregnant woman went into labour and gave birth to a baby girl aboard a bus near Kaziranga in Assam.
The incident occurred when the โAideu Jaanโ night super bus was passing through the Kaziranga area.
The sudden onset of labour sparked concern among passengers, prompting an immediate response as they sought to help the woman in distress.
Recalling the incident, driver Babul Barpatra said he was behind the wheel when he suddenly heard commotion and cries for help from inside the bus.
When he enquired about the situation, passengers informed him that a woman was about to give birth.
โSome passengers asked me to switch off the lights. I immediately stopped the bus safely by the roadside. By the time the bus came to a halt, the delivery was about to take place,โ Borpatra said.
To ensure the womanโs privacy, all male passengers were asked to get off the bus. Blankets and clothes were arranged to create a makeshift delivery space inside the vehicle, while the bus staff and other passengers did their best to assist her.
โNone of us really knew what to do at that moment, but everyone tried to help. The woman delivered the baby, and we immediately called an ambulance,โ the driver recalled.
According to Borpatra, the woman was travelling with seven family members from Jagiroad to Dimou.
Following the delivery, an ambulance arrived at the scene and transported both the mother and the newborn to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The mother and her baby girl were reported to be in stable condition.
The unexpected incident brought relief and joy to fellow passengers, who witnessed an emergency situation turn into a moment of happiness.
The prompt response of the driver, along with the collective efforts of the passengers and bus staff, helped ensure that the mother received immediate assistance.
In a gesture of support, the bus owner also provided financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 to the woman.
