Dimapur: Consul at the Consulate General of the United States of America in Kolkata, Noah Hogan, paid a courtesy visit to Nagaland’s Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem.
During the visit on Wednesday, Hogan briefed Buchem on the planned visit of the US Ambassador to Nagaland for the Hornbill Festival, an official report said on Thursday.
During the meeting, Hogan said the US Consulate General in Kolkata oversees a vast jurisdiction covering Jharkhand, Bihar and the entire Northeast region, primarily focusing on the welfare and safety of American citizens visiting these areas.
He explained that the core objective of his visit was to proactively engage with key networks, establish contacts and identify critical resources such as local hospitals, lawyers and doctors.
This preparation ensures that American citizens can receive swift, coordinated assistance from the local government during unforeseen emergencies.
In their brief interaction, Buchem and Hogan discussed visa application processes and explored opportunities to collaborate closely in various areas of mutual interest.
Acknowledging their deep-rooted historical ties, Buchem thanked the consul for the visit and highlighted the transformative contributions of American missionaries in the 19th century, particularly in reshaping Nagaland’s social and educational fabric.
Buchem expressed optimism that both sides would continue to nurture and carry forward this shared bond to foster future growth and regional prosperity.
