Bollywood’s favourite dietitian Rujuta Diwekar claimed that many people do not fear God as much as they fear eating rice and especially if they have diabetes.
According to Diwekar, rice doesn’t cause diabetes or obesity as the key is to ‘eat it in the right combination and collaboration.’
Diwekar feels that people with diabetes generally avoid eating more rice.
“But rice does not increase your diabetes. When you eat rice in traditional diets as you eat according to Indian culture then rice will not increase your blood sugar. It will keep your blood sugar under control,” she said.
“And that is why traditional diets are promoted in every country’s nutrition guideline- whether it be Brazil’s, India’s, UK’s, US’s or Canada’s,” she added
She also revealed about the speciality of traditional diets.
“When you eat rice in an Indian traditional diet, then you always eat it in combination with lentils or then sprouts such as kidney beans, chickpeas, black-eyed peas etc. and because of that its amino acid profile it gets improved. Because the amino acid that is not in rice is in lentils and the acid that is not in lentils is in rice,” she explained in a video on Instagram.
She also claimed that the western countries called the dal rice combination natural protein blend because of these very reasons.
“If you eat mutton, chicken, egg or fish with rice, then its amino acid profile has improved already. The second specialty of this traditional diet is that we always collaborate rice with vegetables. So when we eat it with vegetables its fibre profile also enhance so because of that your blood sugar does not rise suddenly but slowly.
“And the third thing in a traditional diet is that we eat it with our hands. When we eat it with our hands, then our speed of eating decreases and because of that our satiety or satisfaction of eating rice increases and we eat less food at one time and because of that as well out blood sugar remains in control and our energy levels remain good throughout the day,” she said.
She claimed that another interesting aspect of traditional diets is that we eat it with salad too so the fiber profile even gets further improved.
“ If you are still worried about diabetes keep in mind that smoking, drinking and sedentary lifestyle- these are independent risk factors. Rice is not an independent risk factor. Eating rice will not cause diabetes. You need to rice in the right combination and collaboration and speed,” she added.
