Imphal: Manipurโ€™s Bishnipur district administration and security forces have reviewed security arrangements to ensure farmers can safely access their fields during the ongoing harvesting season, amid continuing ethnic clashes and security concerns in vulnerable areas.

The review was held on Tuesday at the Mini Secretariat Complex, where officials also reviewed security preparedness ahead of the Manipur Legislative Assembly election which is due next year.

Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam stressed the need for coordination among security agencies to maintain law and order during the harvest season and the election. She said protecting farmers and ensuring a peaceful harvesting season were key priorities, alongside preparations for the democratic exercise.

Superintendent of Police Ksh. Ravikumar Singh outlined security deployments planned to protect farming activities in vulnerable fringe areas. He said police would maintain a presence alongside farmers.

Singh also reviewed election preparedness, drawing on data from previous elections to identify areas requiring additional security measures.

Ethnic violence that began in May 2023 has left several agricultural areas and buffer zones between Manipurโ€™s hills and valley districts difficult for farmers to access safely without security support.

The meeting was attended by commanders of the Central Armed Police Forces, the Additional District Magistrate and local Sub-Divisional Officers.
