Dibrugarh: At least 15 people have been arrested in connection with the recent violence in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, with police indicating that more arrests could follow, Inspector General of Police (Central Zone) Hibu Tamang said on Sunday.

Addressing the media, Tamang said additional security personnel had been deployed in Pasighat to maintain law and order following the unrest. He also confirmed that NHPC officers and employees were safe and had been provided security by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

According to the IGP, police have registered six cases relating to incidents of violence, arson and alleged attacks on police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel.

More than 40 personnel from the Arunachal Pradesh Police and CAPF were injured in stone-pelting and other attacks allegedly carried out by protesters, Tamang said. The injured included an officer holding the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

He said a detailed investigation was underway to identify those allegedly responsible for instigating young protesters and determine their roles in the violence. Appropriate legal action would be initiated against those found involved, he added.

Tamang further alleged that some protesters were under the influence of alcohol and had carried beer and liquor bottles during the demonstrations.

Police said the investigation was continuing, with efforts focused on identifying others involved in the incidents. Further arrests are expected as the probe progresses.
