Imphal: Manipurโs Churachandpur district has recorded 3,713 dengue cases and nine reported deaths between April 1 and October 20, 2026, as health authorities step up surveillance and treatment measures to contain the outbreak.
The case count is sharply higher than the 332 cases reported in the district during the whole of 2025, according to figures shared by district officials at a press briefing.
Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, Chief Medical Officer Henkhoneng Mate and District Hospital Medical Superintendent Sania Monica briefed the media on the outbreak and the response measures.
The outbreak has intensified in recent months, with cases rising from 750 and two reported deaths in late August to more than 3,700 cases by October 20.
Sania Monica said the district hospital had admitted around 910 dengue patients to its medicine and paediatric wards since April. The hospital reported a recovery rate of 99.67 per cent.
However, only four of the nine reported deaths have been confirmed through ELISA laboratory testing, while the remaining five are yet to be verified. Monica said the deceased had underlying health conditions, including liver and kidney diseases and compromised immune systems.
The district hospital has also resumed blood centre services after renewing the licence that had expired in 2023.
Since then, the facility has supplied 126 units of fresh blood to public wards and private hospitals across the district to treat critical patients, including those referred directly to intensive care units.
Mate said the health department had deployed mobile medical teams and surveillance units across the district to monitor infections, ensure adherence to treatment protocols and curb further transmission.
