Dimapur: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday called for an inclusive and acceptable solution to the decades-old Naga political issue, urging all negotiating parties to demonstrate sincerity in addressing the aspirations of the Naga people.

Addressing a programme marking the 64th Foundation Day of the ruling Naga Peopleโ€™s Front (NPF) in Kohima, Rio said the issue remains central to the partyโ€™s agenda. He stressed that lasting peace is essential for development, economic growth, investment and employment generation.

Although the NPF is not a negotiating party in the ongoing dialogue between the Centre and Naga political groups, Rio, who is also the party president, said the party could play a facilitating role by bridging differences and creating a conducive atmosphere for the peace process.

He appealed to tribal bodies, civil society organisations, churches, student groups, women, youth and political parties to work collectively towards a settlement, placing the aspirations of the Naga people above individual and organisational differences.

Rio also said development could not be put on hold while awaiting a political settlement. He said the government would continue to focus on education, employment, healthcare, entrepreneurship, rural livelihoods and infrastructure.

Citing the Chief Ministerโ€™s Micro Finance Scheme, Nagaland Startup Policy, Chief Ministerโ€™s Health Insurance Scheme and Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission, he said the government was working to expand economic opportunities and improve public welfare.

On the NPFโ€™s organisational future, Rio urged party workers to strengthen the organisation across all 60 Assembly constituencies and prepare for the next elections. He also called for greater participation of women and young people in leadership positions.

Welcoming new legislators and members who had joined the NPF, including leaders from the Rising Peopleโ€™s Party (RPP) and MLAs from the National Peopleโ€™s Party (NPP), Rio urged party members to set aside past differences and work together. He said personal ambitions should not take precedence over the interests of the party and the people.

Reflecting on the NPFโ€™s 64-year history, Rio paid tribute to its founding leaders and former presidents. He said the partyโ€™s political philosophy was rooted in pursuing Naga aspirations through peaceful and democratic means.

Rio also expressed concern over the situation in Manipur and extended solidarity to people affected by violence and displacement. He called for reconciliation, restoration of trust and lasting peace in the neighbouring state.

He said the NPFโ€™s responsibility is to leave behind a stronger party, a more united society and a better Nagaland for the next generation.
