Imphaal: The Manipur Police marked the lead-up to their 135th Raising Day with a series of events across the state, including a half marathon involving more than 3,000 runners, the inauguration of a sports complex, a tree-planting drive and a free medical camp.
Director General of Police Mukesh Singh flagged off the Manipur Police Half Marathon on Sunday. The event used chip-enabled bibs to record race results, while Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur presided over the closing ceremony and distributed prizes to winners across multiple categories.
Officials said the marathon was organised to promote fitness and strengthen relations between the police and the public. The organisers also acknowledged the support of sponsors, event partners and the public, including Team 195 BPM.
In Thoubal district, Mukesh Singh inaugurated a sports complex developed by the district police at the Police Reserve Line in Khangabok for the welfare of personnel. The inauguration featured exhibition badminton matches involving senior officials, including Additional Director General of Police I.K. Muivah.
The venue is hosting a three-day badminton tournament until October 19, with 20 teams from the Manipur Police, Manipur Rifles, India Reserve Battalion and Central Reserve Police Force participating.
As part of the anniversary-related activities, personnel of the Manipur Police Telecom Organization planted around 80 saplings at the Chingphu Hill Repeater Station in Bishnupur district.
Meanwhile, Moirang sub-divisional police and personnel from Keibul Lamjao organised a free medical camp at Chingmei High School in partnership with Raj Medicity.
