Dimapur: A total of 19 houses were burned and 21 others vandalised during an October 10 clash between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities in Zaonger village under Pungro sub-division of Nagalandโ€™s Kiphire district, according to a damage assessment report released by the district administration on Tuesday. One person was also reportedly killed in the violence.

The report said 19 vehicles, including 13 motorcycles, were either burned or damaged in the clash.

A team led by Pungro Additional Deputy Commissioner Hotolu Sema, accompanied by police personnel and representatives of the Pungro Area Public Forum, visited Zaonger village on Monday to assess the damage and facilitate the documentation and safe collection of belongings left behind by displaced residents.

The recovered belongings have been deposited at Pungro police station for safekeeping and documentation. The police station has been directed to ensure their security until they can be returned to their owners.

The district administration said local representatives and civil society organisations had helped coordinate the process and maintain communication among stakeholders.

It added that security had been tightened around Zaonger village and the situation was being closely monitored, with civilian safety, damage assessment and assistance for displaced residents remaining priorities.
