Imphal: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has extended its ultimatum to the government from October 10 to October 15, citing its willingness to pursue dialogue amid escalating tensions following the recent killings of two civilians.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Council expressed serious concern over the killing of Domkhonei Touthang on October 9, allegedly by Indian Reserve Battalion personnel, and the death of Ngamminlen Haokip on October 10, reportedly at the hands of NSCN-IM cadres.
The KZC said the two incidents had heightened insecurity and deepened anxiety within the Kuki-Zo community.
The Council clarified that the five-day extension followed ongoing discussions with state authorities and should not be seen as a withdrawal of its demands or a dilution of its position. Instead, it described the additional time as an opportunity for the Government of India and the Manipur government to take concrete and time-bound action on its previously submitted demands concerning justice, security and accountability.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting the interests of the Kuki-Zo community, the Council said it expected a meaningful and positive response from the authorities in view of the seriousness of the situation.
The KZC added that its next course of action would depend on the government’s official response and developments on the ground.
