Guwahati: Delhi Police has de-notified Jantar Mantar as a designated venue for protests and demonstrations, naming three alternative locations across the national capital for organising such events.
According to Standing Order No. L&O/48/2026, issued by the Delhi Police Commissioner, Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi have been designated as new venues for holding protests and demonstrations.
The order states that the decision follows recommendations made by a committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to examine alternative venues for organising protests and demonstrations in place of the existing designated site.
The three locations have been notified as alternative protest venues for organising protest and demonstrations, while detailed and revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) for organising demonstrations at these sites will be issued separately, the order said.
The standing order, dated October 11, 2026, partially modifies an earlier order issued on April 28, 2022.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in the national capital, with opposition leaders and activists staging demonstrations over alleged electoral irregularities. The issue gained renewed attention last month after an explosive news investigation raised questions about Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and allegations of โvote choriโ (vote theft) linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
The order was signed by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and circulated to senior police officials and other concerned authorities for implementation.
