Guwahati: Activists of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) approached the Parliament Street Police Station on October 12, asking Delhi Police to specify a date and time for their proposed protest at Jantar Mantar. They gave the police 24 hours to respond.

CJP activist Saurav Das said the party was leaving the decision on the protest schedule to the police, noting that organisers are generally required to submit requests at least 10 days before a demonstration.

โ€œPolice tells everyone to approach them 10 days in advance. We are now saying that they have the choice to tell us the date and time for the protest at Jantar Mantar. We are giving them a 24-hour ultimatum,โ€ Das told reporters.

Another activist, Ashutosh Ranka, said the party expected Delhi Police to allot a date for the demonstration. He added that the CJP would decide its next course of action if the police failed to respond within the deadline.

The activistsโ€™ visit came as the INDIA bloc prepared for a protest march from Connaught Place to the Supreme Court on Monday afternoon over the functioning of the Election Commission.

Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has called for the march under the slogan โ€œChalo Dilliโ€, urging people to participate. The demonstration is set to go ahead despite the Chief Justice of India declining to meet Opposition MPs over the issue.

Gandhi also announced a press conference ahead of the march. In a post on X, he wrote, โ€œMarch for Democracy. March for Justice. Chalo Dilli.โ€

Security has been strengthened across central Delhi ahead of the proposed march, with barricades erected at several locations and additional personnel deployed to maintain law and order.

Delhi Police personnel, along with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have been deployed near Barakhamba Road and Mandi House.

Authorities have also announced restrictions at select Metro stations, with entry and exit services to remain suspended until 4 pm on October 12 as part of the security arrangements.
