Two drinking water projects were inaugurated by executive director-Asset Manager, ONGC Assam Asset, S D Maske at Rohdoi High School and at Hahchara High School in Sivasagar district of eastern Assam recently as part of the Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign observed by ONGC across the country from September 15 – October 2, a press communique received in Jorhat said.

Providing clean and safe drinking water in schools, in and around ONGC’s operational area, is a CSR initiative by ONGC Assam Asset in association with ONGC’s All India OBC and MOBC Employees Welfare Association.

In the financial year 2017-18, ONGC’s School Drinking Water Project benefitted more than 10,000 school children in 32 schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, at project cost of Rs 1.07 crore.

In the financial year 2018-19, the project is being extended to another 52 schools, which would benefit more than 15,000 school children at a project cost of Rs 1.68 crore.

After inaugurating the projects, Maske interacted with the students of Rohdoi High School and of Hahchara High School, enquiring about various facilities available in the school and how ONGC could aid in further infrastructural development of the schools.

On receiving the feedback from the students, he announced financial support of Rs 25,000 for sports items and further assured to extend financial support for construction of girls’ toilet at Rohdoi High School under CSR initiative.

Similarly, he announced financial support of Rs 25,000 for sports items and chemistry laboratory equipment and assured to extend financial support for various items for library like cupboards, book shelves, etc for proper arrangement of books  at Hahchara High School.

Maske requested the school management of both the schools to submit proposals through the district administration at the earliest.

ONGC’s initiative to provide clean drinking water would improve the personal health of the students and teachers, reduce absenteeism, fostering overall academic performance of these schools.
