Dibrugarh: A team from the Assam Chief Ministerโs Vigilance Cell conducted a raid at the office of the Superintending Engineer, PWD (Building Division), in Dibrugarh on Tuesday following a complaint alleging a bribe demand by an Assistant Executive Engineer.
The complaint was filed against Assistant Executive Engineer Mridul Baglary, who allegedly demanded Rs 1.50 lakh from a contractor for processing and clearing a pending bill linked to a Rs 1.40-crore project at Madarkhat Tea Estate.
According to the complaint, the alleged bribe amount was subsequently negotiated to Rs 1.30 lakh.
The Vigilance team reportedly laid a trap and apprehended Baglary while he was allegedly accepting the first instalment of Rs 30,000.
The complaint was lodged by contractor Raj Sekhar Hazarika, who was reportedly supervising the construction work at the project site.
Following the alleged trap operation, the Vigilance team also conducted a search at Baglaryโs residence in Khaniagaon, Dibrugarh.
