Dimapur: Mokokchung is Nagalandโ€™s top-performing district in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) performance and ranks fourth among 121 districts in the northeastern states, principal secretary and development commissioner Y Kikheto Sema said on Tuesday.

Sema said the districtโ€™s SDG performance reflected its development outcomes during an inspection of key infrastructure projects in Mokokchung.

Accompanied by deputy development commissioner Imlikokba and other officials, Sema inspected the library-cum-museum at Ungma village and the Dikhu Bridge-Amguri road project.

The library-cum-museum was constructed under a North Eastern Council (NEC) project at a cost of Rs 4.21 crore. Sema said Ungma was among Nagalandโ€™s iconic villages and urged the village council to extend its community and charitable initiatives to comparatively less-developed villages and communities.

Sema later inspected the Dikhu Bridge-Amguri road, which was completed on May 13, 2025, with 100% physical and financial progress.

However, landslides were observed at three locations along the road. Sema directed the contractor to clear the landslides during the working season and construct suitable retaining structures using rock boulders and wire mesh to strengthen the affected stretches.

He said the Planning and Transformation Department, the nodal department for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the NEC, had been directed by the ministry to inspect projects across all districts of Nagaland to ensure quality, proper implementation and timely completion.

Mokokchung was the first district covered under the inspection initiative, after which important projects in other districts will also be inspected, Sema said.
