Guwahati: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das has alleged that the government is preparing to arrest him and several other party leaders, including Abhijeet, Ashutosh and Ratna Singh.
In a post on X, Das claimed that the government believed arrests of CJP leaders could weaken the movement. He, however, said the younger generation had become more politically aware and urged people to continue raising their voices over their rights and future, irrespective of whether the party’s leaders were present.
Das called for a large-scale mobilisation from October 10 and said CJP leaders were prepared to face arrest or other consequences for their activities.
“If the government thinks that such actions will work, then they are mistaken. The young will not tolerate this,” Das said in his post.
The statement came hours after protests were held outside the Parliament Street police station in Delhi following allegations by a woman journalist that she was allegedly molested and sexually assaulted by Delhi Police personnel during a protest.
Das, along with CJP legal team lead Ratna Singh, the complainant and her lawyers, was present at the police station and demanded that an FIR be registered over the allegations.
Addressing protesters outside the police station, Das questioned why the police had not engaged with the complainant and those accompanying her. He said they had been waiting for a response from the authorities.
Das said he and Singh had visited the police station to extend support to the woman and alleged that the Delhi Police had failed to cooperate with her.
He also accused police personnel of detaining and allegedly manhandling young protesters during the ongoing demonstrations. Referring to the violence reported during a July 20 protest, Das criticised the police response and alleged that similar treatment was continuing.
The allegations made by Das regarding the proposed arrests and the conduct of police personnel could not be independently verified.
