Guwahati: The Sivasagar district administration has alerted residents of downstream areas after receiving information about a landslide upstream of the Dikhou River, reportedly between Yaongyimsen in Nagalandโs Mokokchung district and Yongshei in Longleng district.
According to information shared by the district administration, a voice message circulated by the Longleng Deputy Commissioner reported that around 80 per cent of the river had been blocked, leaving approximately 20 per cent of the water continuing to flow.
The information was based on a report from the Chairman of Yongshei village in Longleng district. However, the administration said the situation would be verified through a ground assessment scheduled for the following morning, after which further updates would be issued.
The administration said some downstream villages had already been contacted and residents had not reported any unusual changes in water flow or a decline in water levels.
At Bihubar in Sivasagar, the Dikhou Riverโs water level was reported to be stable at present.
The district administration said the situation was being closely monitored and that regular updates on the riverโs water level would continue. Residents in downstream riverside areas have been advised to remain alert as a precautionary measure.
The Sivasagar district administration has also urged residents to follow official advisories, keep essential emergency supplies ready and stay informed through government channels.
People have been asked to immediately report any unusual development to the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC).
