Imphal: A joint team of Bishnupur Police and security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Khordak Patton near the Forest Beat Office under Keibul Lamjao Police Station on Wednesday.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about hidden weapons in the Khordak area. The recovery included one country-made MP-5 submachine gun with a magazine, two country-made Lathod launchers, four 36 hand grenades, six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a country-made drone bomb.
The team also recovered five magazines for different firearms, live ammunition of various calibres and other tactical gear.
In a separate operation on the same day, a joint team of Chandel Police and Assam Rifles recovered another buried cache of arms and ammunition from the general area under Molcham Police Station in Chandel district.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the security personnel conducted a search of the area and recovered three single-barrel muzzle-loading (SBML) guns, one Pompi weapon, one Chinese grenade, one locally made grenade, four dummy mortars, four detonators and two delay fuses.
The team also found a container containing nine pieces of wire suspected to be intended for IED fabrication, along with eight tactical pouches, a Baofeng radio communication set, live 5.56 mm M416 and 9 mm ammunition, and two bulletproof covers.
The items recovered in the Chandel operation were handed over to Molcham Police Station for further legal proceedings and investigation.
