Pathsala: Concerns over speeding buses on National Highway-27 have intensified in Bajali district after a passenger bus allegedly hit two motorcycles in Pathsala on Wednesday, injuring two riders.
According to local sources, the incident occurred when a bus travelling from Guwahati towards Pathsala allegedly hit two motorcycles on NH-27 in the Pathsala area. The two riders sustained injuries, while the bus driver reportedly fled the spot.
The incident has renewed concerns among local residents and commuters over the alleged speeding of buses along the busy highway. Residents said the absence of service roads in some stretches is adding to risks for pedestrians and local commuters.
The concerns are particularly acute along populated sections of NH-27, where pedestrians, students, two-wheelers, private vehicles and public transport share the road. Several schools, colleges, healthcare facilities, markets and residential areas are located close to the highway in and around Pathsala.
Residents have raised concerns over speeding, sudden overtaking, abrupt lane changes and other unsafe driving practices, saying these could increase the risk of accidents.
Passengers have also expressed concern over excessive speed, particularly sudden braking and high-speed driving, which they said could put both passengers and other road users at risk.
Following Wednesday’s incident, residents questioned whether adequate monitoring and enforcement measures are being taken to prevent buses from violating speed limits and other traffic rules.
They urged traffic police and transport authorities to conduct regular checks on buses, monitor speeding vehicles and take action against drivers found violating road-safety regulations.
Residents also called for stronger speed monitoring and enforcement along populated stretches of NH-27, particularly near markets, educational institutions and healthcare facilities.
