Aizawl: Mizoram Transport Minister Vanlalhlana on Tuesday flagged off two 21-seater buses, marking the launch of an inter-state bus service connecting Sairang near Aizawl with Churachandpur in Manipur. Regular operations are scheduled to begin from October 1.
The private service, operated by VK Tawna Travels, is expected to provide an additional travel option for people commuting between Mizoram and Manipur, particularly amid the transportation difficulties caused by the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Vanlalhlana emphasised the importance of connectivity in strengthening ties among Zo communities living across different hill regions. He described Mizoram as a “central home” for its kindred communities and said improved transport links could contribute to greater social and cultural interaction.
The minister also expressed hope that the new service would make travel between the two states easier and more convenient.
Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) MLA and Chief Minister’s Adviser (Technical) H Ginzalala said strong connectivity was an important component of development. He observed that the situation in Manipur had, in several ways, strengthened solidarity between people in Mizoram and ethnic Zo communities in Manipur.
Ginzalala also urged passengers using the service to maintain law and order and uphold Mizoram’s reputation for peaceful conduct.
The buses will operate daily between Sairang and Lamka (Churachandpur), covering approximately 360 km in around 12 hours.
The fare has been fixed at Rs 2,500 per passenger, with tickets available through the VK Tawna Bus Service mobile application.
