Imphal: A joint team of the Senapati District Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday afternoon evacuated 39 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the conflict-affected villages of Makui Thebram and Makui Pipuram.
The evacuation was carried out following incidents of arson and heavy firing involving sophisticated weapons along the Imphal–Tamenglong Road in Kangpokpi district. The violence reportedly damaged or destroyed more than 40 houses in the affected area.
The evacuated group comprised 20 men, 13 women and six minors. While 10 of them have taken shelter with relatives, the remaining 29 have been accommodated at the Emesiiphro Community Hall Relief Centre.
With their arrival, the number of IDPs housed at the relief centre has risen to 79. Across Senapati, a total of 121 displaced people are currently staying at different relief locations and with private families.
Ng. Chunthan, spokesperson for the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), thanked the security forces for their timely intervention in evacuating the displaced residents.
The NPO and other local civil society organisations also appreciated the support extended by host communities in Emesiiphro and Liangmai Taphou. They reiterated their commitment to providing humanitarian assistance, essential relief materials and other welfare support to people displaced by the ongoing conflict.
