Guwahati: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, has issued district-level weather warnings for six Assam districts, with Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sivasagar likely to experience isolated thunderstorms and lightning on September 29.
The warning is valid from 8.30 am on September 29 to 8.30 am on September 30, according to the latest RMC bulletin.
Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sivasagar have been placed under an alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated locations. The warning does not indicate that thunderstorms will occur across the entire districts simultaneously.
Charaideo has also been placed under a warning for isolated thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall.
In southern Assam, Hailakandi and Sribhumi have been warned of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of around 40–50 kmph.
The district-wise warning covers Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Hailakandi and Sribhumi, with the expected weather conditions varying across the districts.
For Tinsukia and the adjoining Dibrugarh-Sivasagar belt, the immediate weather concern is isolated thunderstorms and lightning.
Residents have been advised to follow subsequent updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and exercise caution during thunderstorm activity, particularly in open and exposed areas.
