Dibrugarh: Tensions prevailed in Geku village of Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district following clashes between villagers and security personnel during protests against the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).
According to reports, local residents staged protests opposing the project as well as the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel in the village.
The protest allegedly turned violent after members of the gathering damaged government vehicles, following which security forces intervened to bring the situation under control.
Four people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident.
The situation in Geku remains tense, with concerns mounting over the confrontation between local residents and security personnel amid continued opposition to the proposed project.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu is scheduled to visit Siang district on Tuesday as tensions persist over the SUMP.
