Imphal: Security forces in Manipur arrested four people, including an alleged active insurgent and three suspected drug traffickers, during separate operations conducted across the state on Sunday. One of the alleged drug traffickers is a resident of Maharashtra.
The Narcotics Affairs and Border Police (NAB) launched an operation in the North AOC area of Imphal West, where personnel arrested 49-year-old Omprakash Anand Survana, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra. Around 3.5 kg of ganja was allegedly recovered from his possession.
Based on information obtained during his interrogation, security forces later established a joint checkpoint at Heigrujam Mamang Leikai. A second suspect, 25-year-old Ngangom Rajesh Singh from Bishnupur district, was intercepted and arrested for his alleged links to the same drug trafficking network.
In another operation, Kakching District Police conducted a raid targeting suspected drug distribution activities at Sora Bazar. Police arrested 36-year-old Singa Sabanam, a resident of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district. He was allegedly found carrying around 3.2 kg of WY tablets.
Meanwhile, Imphal East police commandos carried out a separate counter-insurgency operation in Khurai Laishram Leikai based on specific intelligence inputs. The operation resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Kangabam Roshan Singh, alias Korou, who was identified by police as an active member of the banned Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL).
Police said all four arrested individuals, along with the seized contraband, have been placed in police custody as investigations into the cases continue.
