Imphal: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) has called for a 12-hour total shutdown in Manipur’s Senapati district on September 28, 2026, in protest against the killing of three Naga civilians and the injury of another in an attack at Kalenjang village.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the organisation said the shutdown would be observed from 6 am to 6 pm. During the shutdown, business establishments, government and private offices, and vehicular movement, including military convoys, will remain suspended.
The NPO said essential services such as educational and medical institutions, religious programmes, media operations, water supply, electricity and fire services would remain exempt from the shutdown.
According to the organisation, two civilians were killed at the spot during the September 26 attack, while a third victim later died while undergoing treatment. Another injured person is currently receiving medical attention at Getwell Clinic in Senapati.
Condemning the incident, the NPO appealed to residents to cooperate with the shutdown and called for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation into the killings. It also demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.
The organisation also raised concerns over what it described as conflicting statements from some Kuki individuals and civil society groups regarding the incident.
The NPO disputed a statement attributed to former Kalenjang village chief Lhingjajoi Hangshing, claiming that she no longer exercises customary or administrative authority over the area.
The organisation further alleged that armed Kuki elements were responsible for the attack and demanded their immediate prosecution. These allegations have not been independently verified.
