Imphal: Security forces arrested five active militants, including cadres of the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) and the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), during separate operations across Manipur on Saturday.
According to official reports, a Special Commando Unit first arrested 27-year-old NRFM operative Laishram Suresh alias L. Tomba Singh from Koirengei Mamang Leikai in Imphal East.
Following his interrogation, security personnel recovered Rs 30,500 in alleged extortion money, an iPhone, five NRFM demand letters and a Royal Enfield motorcycle allegedly purchased with proceeds from extortion.
Based on information obtained during the investigation, authorities subsequently arrested 21-year-old Nongdrenkhomba Loitongbam, an alleged associate of Suresh, from his residence at Keikol Mayai Leikai.
In a separate operation, police arrested 19-year-old KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) extortionist Laishram Zenith Singh, a resident of Thoubal district, from Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai.
Meanwhile, a joint security team operating in Imphal West apprehended two alleged KCP (MFL) cadres, Phandom Dinesh Singh, 38, and Aheibam Silan Meitei, 34, from Tabungkhok Mayai Leikai.
The team recovered two Chinese-made hand grenades with detonators, a Glock 19 pistol loaded with five rounds of ammunition, and a Honda Activa scooter from their possession.
The arrests and recoveries were made as part of ongoing security operations against militant groups and extortion networks in the state.
