Imphal: The Khanuithot-Khon, a Tangkhul Naga youth organization, has announced a boycott of Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s scheduled visit to Ukhrul on September 28.
Citing persistent security concerns and the recent killing of four Nagas in Naga-inhabited areas, the group rejected the visit unless concrete measures are implemented to guarantee community safety.
The Chief Minister is slated to attend a Public Service Delivery Camp involving multiple government departments, for which local administrative preparations are already underway.
The youth body stated that while the Chief Minister holds a constitutional responsibility to visit all regions of the state, the prevailing security situation renders the current visit unacceptable.
The organization referred to a series of unresolved violent incidents, including the recent killing of four Nagas and the April deaths of two Tangkhul Nagas, Chinaoshang Shokwungnao and Yaruingam Vashum, in Ukhrul district.
It further cited unverified reports concerning the brutal deaths of six Liangmai Nagas by armed factions.
In its statement, the Khanuithot-Khon questioned the accountability of armed groups operating under the federal Suspension of Operations (SoO) framework.
The organization urged both the state and central governments to protect civilians, ensure strict accountability for the recent atrocities, and restore peace across Naga-inhabited districts, including Ukhrul, Kamjong, Senapati, Tamenglong, Noney, Chandel, and Tengnoupal.
