Guwahati: The Assam government will make the paperless e-Office system mandatory across all government offices from January 1, 2027, extending digital file processing beyond the state Secretariat.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) announced the deadline on Wednesday as part of the state’s digital governance programme.
In a post on X, the CMO said all government offices would shift to the paperless system. It said the move would make public services more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric.
The e-Office platform developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) is already in use across the Assam Secretariat. All 58 departments are currently using the system, while selected directorates and Deputy Commissioner offices are also being brought under it.
The platform replaces physical files with digital processing. It allows officials to record documents, create and process files, prepare notes and drafts, digitally sign documents and track file movement.
Assam’s wider adoption of e-Office has been underway for several years. The state began district-level implementation and launched e-Office District in 2026 to extend digital file management and paperless procedures across district-level government offices.
From January 1, 2027, government offices outside the Secretariat will also have to adopt the platform as part of the statewide rollout.
