Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have arrested six active cadres of different insurgent groups and recovered arms, ammunition and explosives during coordinated operations across multiple districts, officials said.
In Tengnoupal district, a joint team of district police and Assam Rifles arrested three active cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) near Border Pillar-87 on Monday.
The arrested individuals were identified as 21-year-old Ningthoujam James Singh alias Bibarel of Bishnupur district and 25-year-old Kshetrimayum Rustan Singh alias Thoihenba of Kakching district. The third person arrested was a juvenile.
In Imphal East, a joint team of the Imphal East Commando (CDO), 2nd Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and 8th Bihar Regiment arrested two active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party-Apunba (KCP-Apunba) in the Lamlai Wangkheichou area.
They were identified as 22-year-old Ngangom Loijinghenba Meitei alias Khanganba and 28-year-old Ngangom Hemba Meitei alias Yenao.
Separately, a joint team of Thoubal Commando and 31 Assam Rifles arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Forward Link (KCP-MFL) in the Andro general area on September 21.
The arrested person was identified as 21-year-old Yumnam Ramos Singh alias Lakpa of Keinou Mongkhang Leikai in Bishnupur district.
Security forces also recovered arms and ammunition during separate search operations.
A joint team of Bishnupur district police and security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a country-made carbine machine gun (CMG) with a magazine, a country-made .32 pistol, an improvised explosive device (IED), three fragmentation grenades, a country-made No. 36 hand grenade and 15 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition from the Patton area.
In a separate operation, the Imphal West Commando and 33 Assam Rifles recovered nine 9 mm pistols, a locally made Lathode gun, two bolt-action single-barrel guns, a No. 36 HE grenade and five tactical single magazines (TSM) from border areas adjoining Akham and Lamdeng villages under Lamsang police station.
The arrested persons and recovered weapons and other materials were handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action and investigation.
