Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has directed heads of all government departments to submit recruitment lists under the compassionate appointment scheme, citing the state’s continuing shortage of personnel.
The Chief Minister issued the directive while speaking at a programme held at the Civil Secretariat in Mantripukhri, Imphal, on September 21, where he handed over appointment letters to 93 candidates recruited for the Land Resources Department.
The latest appointments follow the distribution of 37 offer letters in the Excise Department, taking the total number of youths appointed under the compassionate appointment scheme during Khemchand’s tenure to 130.
The initiative was also carried out in districts, with Deputy Commissioners distributing appointment letters to eligible candidates at the local level.
The recruitment exercise comes alongside a public notice issued by Sumant Singh, Secretary to the Governor of Manipur, containing verified lists of eligible and ineligible applicants following scrutiny of the credentials of more than 10,000 candidates.
The notice is aimed at ensuring transparency in the selection process and specifies the grounds on which applications may be rejected. It has also provided a 15-day period, ending September 29, 2026, for applicants who have grievances to submit written objections at Lok Bhavan.
Under existing state rules, appointments made on compassionate grounds are limited to 5% of the total vacancies arising from regular direct recruitment.
The recruitment drive comes against the backdrop of a significant manpower gap in the state government, with reports indicating that more than 50,000 posts across various categories remain vacant.
