Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand and several Naga legislators have condemned the killing of 17-year-old student NK Wiphenbou, who was allegedly ambushed by armed miscreants on September 21.
In a statement shared on social media, Chief Minister Y Khemchand expressed deep concern over the killing of Wiphenbou, son of NK Maihinlakbou of Upper Takou village in Tamenglong district’s Tamei subdivision.
According to the Chief Minister, Wiphenbou was targeted by armed assailants while travelling between Upper Takou and Tamah (Malek). Khemchand condemned the killing, stating that violence against innocent students has no place in a civilized society. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and solace for them.
Following the incident, Naga legislators called for immediate action and justice. Tamei MLA Awangbow Newmai, a former cabinet minister, said the attack took place at around 10:05 am between Upper Takou and Tamah (Malek).
Newmai condemned the incident and described the ambush as a “cowardly and heinous act” targeting an innocent civilian. He said such violence poses a threat to peace and security in the region and cannot be justified.
Naga legislators attributed the attack to suspected Kuki militants, although the allegation remains a claim by the legislators and should be subject to investigation by the authorities.
