Guwahati: The Assam government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for infrastructure development at Zubeen Greens in Kaliabor, local MLA and minister Keshab Mahanta announced on September 19.
Mahanta made the announcement while attending a memorial programme at Zubeen Greens to mark the first death anniversary of Assamese singer and musician Zubeen Garg.
Across Assam, people observed the singer’s first death anniversary through various tribute programmes and commemorative events, with residents of Kaliabor also joining the observances.
At the Kaliabor memorial programme, Mahanta paid tribute to Zubeen Garg by lighting a ceremonial lamp.
Several organisations and institutions in the area also organised events in memory of the late artiste. The programmes featured performances of Zubeen’s popular song “Mayabini”, as fans and residents remembered his contribution to Assamese music and cinema.
The Jakhalabandha Milan Club and Friendship Club also organised a tribute programme, during which Zubeen Garg’s film “Roi Roi Binale” was screened.
The Rs 1 crore allocation is expected to facilitate infrastructure development at Zubeen Greens, which has emerged as an important venue for programmes commemorating the late singer and musician.
