Guwahati: Asom Nagorik Sanmilan has appealed to people across Assam to commemorate the first death anniversary of singer Zubeen Garg on September 19 by playing his songs throughout the day.
The organisation said Zubeen’s death on September 19 last year had a profound impact on the people of Assam and described the public response as “unique and unprecedented”.
“It will always be remembered as a remarkable phenomenon in the history of Assam,” the organisation said in a statement.
Asom Nagorik Sanmilan called for Zubeen’s songs to be played across the state, from Sadiya to Dhubri, from morning till evening, as part of the commemoration.
“Let the sky and air of Assam resound with the echoes of Zubeen’s songs from every direction,” the organisation said.
The organisation said Zubeen would continue to be remembered through his music, melodies, rhythms and people-centric artistic works.
It also expressed hope that “Zubeen’s artistic spirit and artistic ideals remain immortal” and that his voice would continue to bring people together.
The appeal was issued on behalf of Asom Nagorik Sanmilan by Hiren Gohain, Harekrishna Deka, Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, Paresh Malakar, Santanu Borthakur and Abdul Mannan.
