Aizawl: Mizoram is set to host the Anthurium Festival from October 1 to 3 as part of efforts to attract tourists and showcase the state’s tourism potential, officials said on Wednesday.
The three-day festival will be organised at Reiek and Ailawng in Mamit district, around 13 km from Aizawl.
Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar chaired a meeting on Wednesday to review preparations for the event. He said tourism in Mizoram has witnessed significant growth, with the rising influx of visitors contributing to local economic activity and benefiting shopkeepers, taxi operators, tea-stall owners and other businesses.
Describing the festival as a state government initiative, Hmar called for coordinated efforts involving government departments, local communities and residents to ensure the successful organisation of the event and attract a large number of visitors.
According to officials, the festival will offer a mix of cultural, recreational and adventure activities. These will include trekking, cave exploration at Khuangchera Puk, Thawngpawnga Puk and Ngaitei Puk, shooting competitions, traditional Mizo games, children’s activities and visits to flower gardens.
The event will also feature performances by popular Mizo artists during Leikapui Night, while a grand concert is scheduled for the closing ceremony.
The preparatory meeting was attended by government officials, representatives of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), community leaders from Reiek and Ailawng, members of the Zo Anthurium Grower Society, event managers and the Mizo Indigenous Games organising team.
Officials also reviewed traffic and transportation arrangements for the festival. A proposal was made to issue a travel advisory for festival visitors and regular commuters using the Reiek route to minimise inconvenience and ensure smoother traffic movement during the three-day event.
