Agartala: Tripura Home Secretary Abhishek Singh said a higher-level meeting is likely to be held soon to address the long-pending border dispute with Mizoram, which he said is confined to a small area around Phuldengsei village.
Singh made the statement after talks with a four-member delegation led by the Mizoram Home Secretary in Agartala. The discussions were held in line with a recent decision of the North Eastern Council (NEC), where the Tripura Chief Minister raised the boundary issue with Mizoram.
The NEC had decided that Home Secretaries of the two states should meet to initiate discussions on resolving the dispute.
During the first round of talks in Agartala, officials from both states examined records and documents concerning the disputed area. Senior officials from both administrations attended the meeting, including the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of North Tripura district.
“We have discussed documents related to the Survey of India. We shall submit the documents and hopefully a higher-level meeting shall be organised,” Singh said.
The Home Secretary said the dispute involved only a very small portion of the inter-state boundary, specifically the area around Phuldengsei.
He said the issue concerned physical possession of the village council area and would ultimately be determined by the Survey of India.
“This village council was under possession of ours. That will be decided by the Survey of India,” Singh said.
The latest official-level talks are part of the mechanism agreed upon at the NEC to pursue a structured resolution to the boundary dispute through senior representatives of the two state governments.
Singh did not specify the date or venue of the proposed higher-level meeting. No further details were provided on the specific documents the two sides agreed to submit.
