Pathsala: A jewellery store in Pathsala was allegedly burgled in the early hours of Monday, with thieves reportedly escaping with gold worth around Rs 2 crore and Rs 16 lakh in cash, prompting demands for tighter security in the busy commercial town.
The theft took place at a Maa Manasha jewellery store, where the miscreants allegedly damaged the CCTV cameras before carrying out the burglary.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and traders, particularly as Pathsala has reported several theft-related incidents in the past.
Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Bajali District Students’ Union (AASU), Chambers of Commerce, Pathsala Bazar Committee and The Hindu Parishad, Assam have called for increased night patrolling and stronger police surveillance, especially in commercial areas.
The organisations have also urged the Pathsala Municipal Board to install CCTV cameras at key locations across the town. They said improved surveillance could help prevent thefts and assist police in identifying those involved.
The groups called for regular night patrolling, effective police surveillance and functioning CCTV cameras to strengthen security for residents and businesses in Pathsala.
