Imphal: Renewed violence was reported in Manipurโ€™s Jiribam-Tamenglong-Noney corridor on Sunday, leaving four civilians dead, a minor injured and one person missing in separate incidents.

At around 4:00 PM, unidentified militants attacked civilians at Longpi village in Noney district, under Nungba police station.

Thangvel Gangte and Julie Gangte, residents of Sempat village, were ambushed while transporting rice and died at the spot. Another villager was reported missing after the incident.

Earlier, at around 4:00 AM, militants attacked S Tollen Kuki village in the Tousem subdivision of Tamenglong district. Lhingzangai Singsit, a resident, was killed in the attack. Her husband, Seineh Singsit, and their minor son suffered bullet injuries.

The father and son were airlifted to Silchar Medical College Hospital. Seineh Singsit later died from his injuries, while the minor remained under medical care. Militants also fired at a nearby house, but no further injuries were reported.

Personnel from Kaimai police station and central security forces were deployed in the area.

At around 6:30 PM, unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to three to four houses belonging to members of the Rongmei Naga community at Khedaghar village, around 12 km south of Jiribam town.

The identities of those responsible and the reason for the arson were not immediately known. Security forces increased monitoring in the area.

Local allegations have linked specific militant outfits to the incident, but security agencies said the claims had not been independently verified.

The incidents drew condemnation from political and community leaders, who called for an end to violence and greater protection for civilians.

Tamei MLA and Naga leader Awangbow Newmai condemned the attack on civilians and urged communities to reject violence and work towards restoring peace.

Saikul MLA and Kuki woman leader Kimneo Hangshing condemned the killings of women and children.

She said attacks on civilians could not be justified and called for stronger civilian protection and swift justice.
