Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has proposed the formation of a coordination committee involving the state administration, police and Border Security Force (BSF) to strengthen management of the international border and improve coordination among agencies.
Saha made the proposal while speaking to reporters after attending a blood donation camp organised by the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala in collaboration with the BSF at the Shalbagan BSF headquarters. IG BSF Tripura Frontier Prince Rani was present at the event.
Saha said closer coordination and regular communication among the state administration, police and BSF would help the agencies respond more quickly to emerging security situations.
He also said a pilot project under the smart border initiative was underway in Sepahijala district.
Tripura shares an international border with Bangladesh on three sides. Referring to the border management requirements, Saha said the proposed coordination committee could help improve joint efforts among the agencies concerned.
He stressed the need for heightened vigilance in border areas to prevent illegal activities, smuggling and other criminal activities through the international border.
The chief minister also underlined the need to strengthen security for people living in border areas, maintain law and order and improve administrative preparedness in vulnerable areas.
According to Saha, the proposed mechanism would facilitate more effective coordination among the state administration, police and BSF and help address challenges along the border in a timely manner.
He said a coordinated approach involving all relevant agencies was necessary to ensure comprehensive security along the international border.
There was no immediate response from the BSF or the state administration to the proposal.
